JOE BECAME A WAR ARTIST AFTER BEING DISCOVERED IN THE ARMY INFANTRY NEAR MANILA IN THE PHILIPPINES.  HIS INFANTRY MOS WAS OFFICIALLY WITHDRAWN FOR AN ARTIST MOS2296 .....A MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALIST.  HIS ASSIGNMENTS BEGAN IN MANILA AND FOLLOWED THE WAR PROGRESS TO KOREA WERE THE WAR ENDED.  IN NOVEMBER 29, DECEMBER 1945, AFTER JOE'S 3 HECTIC MONTHS CREATING PAINTINGS IN KOREA, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO TOKYO, JAPAN.  HARVEY DUNN, AN ARTIST OF GRANDEUR FAME [NO POLITICS] JUST A MIRACLE PAINTER WORLD WIDE WITH LIME LIGHT, WAS ASSIGNED THE RANK OF CAPTAIN BY THE ARMY.  IT WAS 1917, WHEN DUNN WITH AN MOS 2296 WAS ASSIGNED TO USE HIS ART IN THE FRONT LINE TRENCHES FOR 2 YEARS BETWEEN FRANCE AND GERMANY, WHERE DUNN `TOOK FIRE'.  POISON GAS FROM GERMAN ARTILLERY SHELLS, SHORTENED THE LIFE OF OUR PHENOMENAL PAINTER OF BEAUTY, WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS "AN EVENING IN THE CLASS ROOM.

ARCHIVO COLLECTION.  THE PRESIDENT AND STAFF AGREED THAT "COSENTINO HAD EVERYTHING" FOR THEIR PRODUCTION TO BEGIN OUR ABARTH GUIDE.  SLAVE-0-MATIC BROUGHT A LARGE COLLECTION OF JOE KIDD'S ARTISTIC VARIETY IN THE FORM OF FOTO GRAPHICS.  THEIR CONFERENCE TABLE WAS PERFECT TO HOLD A VIEWING OF JOE'S ART.  BOTH OF THEM WERE VERY IMPRESSED ABOUT JOE'S PHENOMENAL VARIETY OF SUBJECTS AND MEDIUMS.  WAS JOE'S DISCIPLE SURPRISED, WHEN MR. WATANABE AND TAKASHIMA PRAISED JOE'S ART.  HOWEVER, THEY HAD ANOTHER COMMENT, HIS ART IS NOT OUR TASTE.

JOE AND HIS WIFE MAURINE MOVED INTO A HOUSE IN MID 1947.  THEY WERE CLOSE TO OUR APARTMENT IN MOUNT KISCO.  TWO YEARS LATER, THEY MOVED INTO THIS HOME.  WHICH WAS FURTHER INTO THE COUNTRY WHERE THEIR FIRST SON WAS BORN.  THIS FOTO WAS TAKEN IN 1996 .....THE THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS WHICH STUDIED WITH JOE FROM THE FIRST 3 YEARS FROM 1947 AT THE NEWARK SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS, THEN FOR 28 YEARS, AT THE N.Y. A MAN IN A CANOE COULD BE CONSIDERED THIS FIRST MAJOR STUDENT WORK ASSIGNMENT FROM JOE KIDD.  AFTER THE WATER COLOR, CAR IN THE SNOW, L W I FELT IT SHOULD NOT BE THE FIRST, BECAUSE IT SEEMS A BIT PRIMITIVE.  JOE'S ASSIGNMENT GAVE THIS STUDENT A CHALLENGE TO PAINT WITH OILS FOR THE FIRST TIME.  FURTHER- MORE, JOE SAID, "THIS IS THE LAST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER, WHICH MAY TAKE YOU AS  LONG TO CREATE 30 DIFFERENT THUMBNAIL COMPOSITION IDEAS OF A MAN AND HIS CANOE.  WHEN THEY ARE FINISHED, I WILL SELECT ONE WHICH YOU WILL PAINT WITH OIL ON A 20 X 40 INCH CANVAS."  THE RESULTS OF THIS MAJOR STUDENT ART WORK JOE SELECTED THE ONE THUMBNAIL TO GET SERIOUS OVER, IS BELOW.

IN THE SAME YEAR, MAN IN A CANOE WAS PAINTED WITH OILS, BUT MAYBE IT WAS JOE WHO SUGGESTED TO USE BLACK INDIA INK AND REPEAT THE SAME PICTURE.  THIS DRAWING IS WHAT MADE PROGRESS CLOSER BY THE WEEK.  A HEAVY WOODEN FRAME WAS USED FROM CONSTRUCTION CRATES.  A FRIEND OWNED THE CRATES, THEN OFFERED TO MAKE THE FRAME.  THE LENGTH IS 50 INCHES AND THE HEIGHT 30 INCHES, PRICE IS $4,000.00.   THE SIZE WITH THE SAME FRAME IS 30 X 50 INCHES WIDE ON ILLUSTRATION BOARD WITH INDIA PEN AND INK LINE AND QUASH.

OUR FAMILIA HAD VERY LITTLE FREE TIME .....6 X 24, DAY 7 WAS TUESDAY FOR US SLAVE-0-MATICS TO HAVE NO MORE OR NO LESS FREE TIME.  MY FATHER AND I WERE FISHERMEN AND GAME HUNTERS.  WE HAD 2 OR 3 ROW BOATS WHICH WERE LEGAL TO FISH, BUT MUST HAVE A STATE CERTIFICATE WITH A NUMBER FOR EACH BOAT. THEY BOTH COME TO THE SURFACE FAST WHEN THEY ARE HOOKED.

MORE OF THIS FIRST SERIES WITH A NORMAL SOFT PENCIL.  THIS WAS L W I  AT THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF DESIGN WHICH WAS THE FIRST TRY AT LIVE MODELS.  AFTER THE VERY LIGHT PENCIL SWIRLS IS AT TIMES [97 PERCENT], L W I IS FINDING HIS WAY TO THE TRUE GESTURE .  TRUE THE SWIRLS ARE OVERDONE WITH THIS PENCIL GUIDING THE ARTIST HAS TO GO.  HOWEVER, THE FUTURE OF THE HUMAN MACHINE, WHICH IS OFF TO A GOOD START.  THE ONLY ARTIST LEFT AS AN INSTRUCTOR WAS THE DEAN, MR. CHARLES HINTON.  THIS ACADEMY WAS THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL ARTIST SCHOOL, NOT DURING L W I TIME.
